The core difference between pig bago (pig velvet) and cow suede (cow suede/suede) is that pig bago is made of pig leather velvet, with obvious pores, high cost-effectiveness, and wear resistance; Cow suede is a type of cowhide that is ground down on the back, resulting in a denser texture, higher strength, and more expensive price.
1、 Raw materials and processes
Pigwago (Pigwago): The front (grain) of the first layer of pigskin is ground down, retaining the natural pores of the pigskin. The suede surface is fine but the pores are clear.
Cow suede (cow suede/suede): The back (meat side) of the first/second layer cowhide is ground and has no pores, resulting in a denser and more silky texture.
2、 Appearance and feel
Pig Bago: The pores are arranged in groups of three (characteristic of pigskin), with short and dense fibers, a tight and firm texture, and a natural luster.
Cow suede: No pores, longer and fluffier fur, noticeable color change in inverted fur (shallow fur, deep fur), and stronger silky luster.
3、 Performance comparison
Wear resistance: Pig bago>cow suede (pig skin fiber is thicker and more resistant to manufacturing).
Strength/Tear Resistance: Cow suede>Pig bago (cowhide fibers are thicker).
Breathability: Both are excellent, with Pigsy slightly better.
Waterproof: Pig Bago is better (natural hydrophobic pore structure).
Easy to maintain: Pig Bago is resistant to dirt and easy to clean; Cow suede is prone to dust absorption, water sensitivity, and color fading.
4、 Price and Usage
Pig Bago: High cost performance, mostly used for sports shoes, casual shoes, luggage and bags.
Cow suede: priced higher, mostly used for high-end casual shoes, outdoor boots, and light luxury leather goods.
5、 Quick identification
Looking at pores: three-point pores=pig bago; No pores=cow suede.
Touching sensation: tight and short velvet=pig bago; Fluffy long velvet, inverted velvet discoloration=cow suede.
Look at the luster: Natural matte=Pig Bago; Strong silky texture=cow suede.
